Skin Police: Preview the Hyper-Violent Sci-Fi Dystopia From Oni Press
When human clonming goes horribly awry, you call the Skin Police.
If you like your science fiction mixed with a healthy dose of over-the-top violence, then you’ll want to keep an eye out for Skin Police. This upcoming four-issue miniseries from Oni Press combines a Blade Runner-like premise with copious amounts of blood and gore.
IGN can exclusively debut a preview of Skin Police #1. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
Skin Police is written by Jordan Thomas (The Man From Maybe) and drawn by Daniel Gete (Über), with additional covers by Nick Pitarra (The Manhattan Projects), Adam Pollina (X-Force), and Shaky Kane (The Bulletproof Coffin). Here’s Oni Press’ official summary for the series:
In the year 2142, fertility levels around the globe plummeted, and a black market for illegal clone babies emerged. Millions of parents used their own genetic material to welcome these new children, only realizing the horrific consequences far too late. At some point in their life cycle, three in four of these genetic duplicates transform into psychologically unstable killing machines known as “dupes.” Fortunately, the United Nations of Europe has decided to take an active role in containing the growing threat. Their specialized task force has taken up the unenviable task of hunting dupes before their violence can spread. To the government, they’re the Duplicate Identification and Capture Division. To everyone else, they’re the “Skin Police.” The worst part of the job? It’s always the one you least suspect…
“What if we lived in a society filled with ticking time bombs that could go off without warning at any moment?” Thomas tells IGN. “Now imagine these lurking vessels of death and destruction also had hopes, dreams, feelings and emotions. That is the setup for Skin Police. A world where illegal clones live amongst us often not knowing what they are or how close they are to ‘popping’ and turning into adrenaline-fueled, hallucinating, violent maniacs.”
Thomas continues, “The ethical conundrum around a special government task force given permission to deal with these unfortunate creations by any means necessary, even though for all intents and purposes they are as human as the people sent to end their existence, sits at the root of our new action-packed sci-fi series. The questions superstar agent Brisson Eckis is forced to confront as terrible truths come to light set the fuse for a story packed with constant peril, government conspiracies and impossible choices all set in a future Europe dictatorship where no one can be trusted and your best friend could turn into your worst enemy in a split second.”
Skin Police #1 will be released on October 2, 2024.
